TerraNovaNet, Inc. is a Licensed Exchange Carrier in addition to being an Internet Service Provider. Based in Key Largo Florida, TNN began providing Internet access in 1996. We began building our wireless network infrastructure in 1999. TNN became one of the first VoIP providers in 2005 and purchased our own carrier switch in 2009. Today the Network Operations Center is located in Key Largo with mirrored facilities in Miami Fibermedia data center and telecommunications switching facilities in the Franklin Exchange Building in Tampa.

Some History From Mom’s Point of View

In 1996, a teenager named Travis Mikalson moved with his family to Key Largo from Wisconsin.  He had discovered the Internet during those long cold days and nights in Lake Mills and being the curious sort, he was determined to find out how it all worked.  The idea formed of bringing his new expertise to the Keys.

Working with short funds and a lot of ingenuity, Travis and his dad cobbled together an array of equipment and started TerraNovaNet in the back bedroom with banks of monitors, phones, and a whole lot of blinking lights. Dinner conversation centered around acronyms like TCP/IP and SMTP.

From the beginning, Travis decided that personalized responsive customer service would be the hallmark of his new company. In the early days that meant knocking on doors and hearing a lot of “but you’re just a kid!”But the customers loved the service and told their neighbors.  Through word-of-mouth on the Coconut Telegraph and enthusiastic customer referrals, the business soon grew to become the TerraNovaNet family.

At first it was all about dial-up. As time went on, high-speed wireless came along.  The technology was in its infancy but TerraNovaNet grew with each advance that opened new possibilities for speed and reliability.

The decision was made to build our own infrastructure using local neighborhood micro-cells with a network of towers and antennas that covered most of Key Largo.Then it stretched down to Tavernier and Islamorada.  By this time local businesses were beginning to discover the advantages of working with a small local company that offered the equipment and personalized customer service they needed.

As business grew, so did TerraNovaNet’s services to include residential and business phone, PBX, backup, and fax. One of our early favorites was SmartMail Fax that allowed a fax to be delivered via email, saving time and money.

Within the next few years we plan to add fiber connectivity to our growing list of services, bringing even higher speeds and greater reliability to the Keys.All with the same superior customer service we’ve been known for from the beginning. Many of our loyal customers have been with us since Travis first decided to trade in his down parka for a pair of sandals. We’re proud of the service we’ve provided for the past 26 years and happy to welcome new customers to the TerraNovaNet family.
